The RAVI Framework

Reliability Adjusted Value Insights

Bridging the chasm between engineering output and business outcome.

RAVI is an intelligence framework and methodology designed to transform Engineering from a "Black Box" of activity into a transparent, predictable engine of business growth. By moving beyond traditional Agile metrics like velocity and story points, RAVI aligns engineering delivery with financial reality.

1

The Reliability Score (The Hill Equation)

Engineering performance isn't binary (On Time vs. Late). RAVI calculates a team's Reliability Score using a mathematical model adapted from biochemistry: The Hill Equation.

  • Scientific Origin Originally formulated to describe how molecules bind in the human body, RAVI adapts this model to describe the relationship between delivery delays and reliability.
  • Weighted Delays Not all delays are created equal. RAVI applies an adjustable "strictness" factor to model how delays impact predictability.
  • The Sigmoidal Curve Small deviations are absorbed, but as delays compound, the framework identifies the "inflexion point" where delivery confidence plummets.
The Outcome A precise metric that tells the business exactly how much they can trust the current roadmap.
2

Probabilistic Forecasting

RAVI replaces "best guess" estimations with Monte Carlo Simulations. By analysing historical throughput and volatility, the framework moves away from single-date promises to risk-adjusted confidence intervals.

  • Data-Driven Timelines If a project requires 20 units of work and the team averages 10 every two weeks, RAVI doesn't just blindly say "four weeks."
  • Confidence Intervals It provides a range (e.g., 3–5 weeks) with a specific confidence percentage (e.g., 80%) based on the team's unique reliability profile.
3

Work Classification & Value Engineering

To ensure engineering effort is spent on the right things, RAVI automatically categorises all work into three distinct tiers:

  • Basics (BaU) Foundation work (Auth, Access Control) that is required but doesn't drive sales.
  • Table Stakes (KTLO) Domain-specific features that customers expect, but aren't unique to your product.
  • Value Creation (Productive Work) Your "Secret Sauce." This is the core differentiator that wins deals and retains customers, such as high-performance AI or superior UX.
4

Innovation Accounting & ROI

RAVI translates engineering effort into a dollar amount using Innovation Accounting. It ties technical output to financial data (e.g., Stripe, CRM) to determine the Risk-Adjusted Value of the roadmap.

  • Direct Value Exact ROI for work tied directly to closed deals.
  • Projected "Bets" Calculated value for growth initiatives (e.g., NRR expansion) weighted by business confidence.
  • The Cost of Tech Debt RAVI quantifies "carried debt" as a percentage of business value (e.g., $100K debt against $1M MRR), allowing leadership to make data-driven decisions on when to pivot from features to maintenance.

The Adult in the Room

RAVI sits above your existing tools (Jira, Linear, GitHub), acting as a translation layer between Engineering and the Board. It identifies bottlenecks through value-stream mapping and provides the objective perspective needed to optimise for the highest possible ROI.

Engineering speaks in points.
The Business speaks in ROI.
RAVI speaks both.
